PRESS RELEASE
Leather titleholder completes first
video documentary
Ottawa, Canada, November 11, 2003
Ask Alex Wisniowski, Mr. Leather Ottawa-Hull
2002, to name his favorite piece of leather. He will unhesitatingly
reply, “My leather jacket. It has traveled many a road
with me.”
Not surprisingly, “My Leather Jacket”
is the title Alex has given to his first video documentary,
which he has just completed.
During his year as Mr. Leather Ottawa-Hull
2002, Alex met many incredible women and men who personified
the red heart in the leather pride flag. After stepping down,
he decided to capture these leatherfolk on video. His aim
was to show people the many facets of the leather lifestyle.
He also aimed to preserve their legacy for posterity.
Alex wishes he could have recorded everyone
he had hoped to interview for his documentary. However, he
feels the final number of interviewees reflect the flavor
and diversity of the Canadian and American leather communities.
They cover a broad spectrum that includes women and men, Black
and White, young and old, Old Guard and New Guard. Each interviewee
has traveled a unique and individual path.
“Leatherfolk make many journeys in
their lifetime,” Alex says. “Indeed, to quote
the words of the video’s opening song, ‘life is
like a road that leads in all directions.’”
Alex hopes screenings of his video documentary
will serve as fund-raisers for the Leather Archives and Museum
in Chicago, so that leather history and culture can be preserved
for future generations.
